How To Chose A Timbren Silent Ride Suspension System
Published 08/02/2019 >
Question:
Is there a structural difference between the single axle 3500# and 5000# silent drive single axle suspension or is the only difference the rubber spring. Also, since the rubber springs are progressive, will the 5000# ride/perform the same as the 3500# at say 2000# load? Im building an offroad trailer, already have the axle, hubs, wheels, tires, etc. Looking to get away from leaf springs but dont want to compromise structural strength. Thanks.

The difference between a 3,500 and 5,000 lb Timbren Silent Ride is the structural strength of the springs. Also there is a design difference in the hardware depending on what diameter and shape axle you have. Ideally, you want to match the Timbren Silent Ride up with your axle capacity. If your axle is a 5000 lb axle, you want to go with a 5,000 lb system otherwise they will not properly support the trailer and it will sag. However, if you only have 2,000 lbs on the trailer and you have a 5,000 lb Timbren Silent Ride system then you may experience a more stiffer ride then usual because the springs are rated for more weight then what you have on the trailer.
If you want to use a lower rated system for your axle, you can as long as you don't go over the weight they are rated for on your trailer but we do not recommend that. I recommend matching up your suspension system with the axle capacity just like when you replace leaf springs so you are not limited to a lower weight then what you axle is rated for. I have attached the selection of Timbren Silent Rides we carry.
