Availability of Adapters for Older Yakima RocketBox to Fit Aero-Style Crossbars
Updated 07/26/2019 | Published 07/25/2019 >
Question:
Are there adapters that allow me to install my older yakima rocketbox the kind that used the round bars to my factory installed roof rack? The connectors for the box line up with the cross bars but the cross bars are wider that the original connectors.

I reached out to my contact at Yakima regarding your older RocketBox and he said there aren't any adapters available that would allow the box to fit wider aero-style crossbars using its existing hardware. Your only option to keep using this particular cargo box would be to install new mounting hardware but this is going to require modifying the box (drilling new holes), which I don't recommend as it could affect its integrity.
For mounting hardware that will fit wider crossbars we have the Replacement Quick-Dial Mounting Assembly # Y8870097.
Your best option is going to be to replace the box altogether with a current model RocketBox that's compatible with the factory bars on your vehicle right out of the box. For this I recommend taking a look at the RocketBox Pro 14 # Y07192 that provides 14 cubic feet of storage space, a dual-side-opening lid that lets you access your cargo from either side of the vehicle, and integrated locks to keep your gear safe.
I have attached a short video review that you can check out as well.
