I own a 2006 Ford Explorer with a class 2 hitch and need to upgrade to a class 3 hitch how will I be able to do this.

Actually, both of the hitches we offer for a 2006 Ford Explorer are designed to mount below a factory hitch with a Class II 1-1/4 inch opening. I recommend the Draw-Tite Class III Round Tube Trailer Hitch, item # 75437, because it will do exactly as mentioned above.
