Tow capacity with a weight distribution hitch

I did some checking and it looks like your 2007 Mercury Mountaineer has a towing capacity of 3,500 lbs. You would need to check your owners manual or with Mercury to verify this based on how the vehicle is equipped.
We have hitches like the Draw Tite part # 75437 which has a towing capacity of 5,000 lbs and 500 lbs tongue weight when not used with a WD system and 8,000 lbs and 800 lbs when used with a WD system.
The overall towing capacity for a vehicle is always the lowest rated component. So if you have a hitch with a high capacity but the vehicle has a much lower capacity the lower vehicle capacity would be the overall towing capacity.
