Is Trailer Tire Capacity the Sum of All Tires

Updated 07/02/2019 | Published 07/01/2019

Question:

I have a trailer rated at 1000 lbs capacity and one tire each side tires are 480/400-8 LRB rated for 590 Lbs @ 60 psi do you double the 590 for actual weight bearing capacity and go with the 1000 lb max or is 590 the max?

Helpful Expert Reply:

Yes, you do add the load capacity of the trailer tires to get their total weight-bearing capacity.

As an example the Taskmaster 4.80R12 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range C # TT48012C has a 990 lb capacity so two of these would have a 1,980 lb capacity in total.

I have added a link to a trailer tire help article which I recommend checking out as well as a link to our selection of trailer tires.
