Does Power Converter Also Serve as Inverter

Question:

Does the Power Converter also serve as an Inverter to supply 110v power from the DC Battery?

The power converter of the Progressive Dynamics RV Power Control Center with AC/DC Panel and Converter/Smart Charger - 35 Amp # PD4135K does not also serve as an inverter to supply 110 volt power from the DC battery. It simply converts the AC shore power to DC power.

I have added a link to a video review of this converter for you to check out as well.

How would one incorporate an inverter into an electrical system with the PD4135K? I would like to wire the inverter to the PD4135K so that the battery could supply power to all the same outlets that are wired to the converter when boon docking. I am concerned about the smart charger feeding back to the battery during this process and draining the battery by attempting to charge itself. I am thinking that a power relay could be used to turn this off automatically when there is power coming from the inverter. Where would such a relay connect to switch off the smart charging feature?

Great question. I reached out to my contact at Progressive Dynamics and he as able to send me a diagram of how an inverter would get added to this setup (linked below). Note that the converter used in the diagram is a different model but the concept is the same for part # PD4135K . Anything you ant to run off the inverter (lights, outlets, etc) will have to be moved from the main breaker panel to the sub breaker panel.

Is there an upgrade kit for the pd4135kw for a lithium battery? I talked with the manufacturer of Lion Safary UT 1300 lithium battery and he said that the pd4135kw wouldnt hurt the battery, but might not charge it as efficiently as one designed specifically for lithium batteries.Thoughts? Thanks

Lithium batteries do require higher voltage for charging, so the person you talked to was correct. It won't hurt the battery, but it's not the ideal solution, either. The closest alternative to the PD4135K that's designed for lithium batteries is the Progressive Dynamics # PD4045LIKA . There isn't an actual upgrade kit available to convert the PD4135K to this type of setup.
