How To Wire 7-Way Plug On Vehicle Without Brake Controller
Updated 06/26/2019 | Published 06/24/2019 >
Question:
In order to just plug trailer 7way into spare battery with a 7way receptacle wired directly to battery. When connecting the 7 WAY receptacle direct to battery do you connect the black power to positive battery terminal and the white ground to negative terminal? Also if all it is powering is interior lights and exterior lights does it matter that there won’t be a fuse between lights and battery?

Expert Reply:
When wiring the 7-way receptacle on the back of the vehicle to the vehicle's battery you want to extend the black power wire to the positive side of the battery terminal via a 40 amp circuit breaker. The white wire (ground) from the 7-way receptacle should be grounded to a bare metal surface on the vehicle's frame. You still want to use the circuit breaker even if you just have lights.
