Question:

I had to rewire a 7-way round connector for my 2011 Chevy Silverado today because I managed to pull the wires out. Prior to that the lights worked perfectly. When I connected the wires according to the diagram the turn signals do not work properly. Regardless if I put the right or left turn signal on both lights blink. I tried switching the turn wires and I get the same result. Also when I plug in the connector the lights go on even if the car lights are off. The one difference I see is that I do not have a black ground wire but rather a RED wire that I put in the ground slot. Any thoughts? Thank you

It sounds like you pulled the wires out from the back of the 7-way connector, and you are trying to rewire it. It is not very reliable to go by color of the wiring because not all 7-way connectors use the same color code per function. Instead, it is a good idea to test the functions of the 7-way with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993. Have a friend activate the functions from inside the truck while you test the wires that are at the rear of the truck.

Then use the vehicle 7-way circuit diagram I attached to rewire the plug. It sounds like you most likely have the ground in the wrong circuit. Most 2011 Chevy Silverados have a factory tow package which means the 7-way plug connects to a factory tow port at the rear of the truck. It may be a good idea to just replace the 7-way with part # 30955. You can unplug the wiring from the round factory tow package port and plug this one in.
