Will Higher Load Rating Tires Cause a Rougher Ride for a 2,000 lb Utility Trailer
Updated 05/07/2019 | Published 05/06/2019 >
Question:
The original ST175/80-R13 tires, B load capacity, on my 4 x 8 utility trailer need replacing. Trailer gvw 2000# with a single torsion type axle. There are very few B load options available, but good ion for C capacity. So, B is rated 1100 at 35 psi C is 1360 @ 50 psi. If I go with C rated replacements, will the trailer have a rougher ride due to the stiffer sidewall and higher pressure? It bounces a lot until you get past the first 1000 lb load. Thanks

Helpful Expert Reply:
Although a ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire with a Load Range of C (1,360 lbs at 50 psi), like the Provider # TTWTRTM1758013C, does have a higher weight rating and psi rating than your current tire I don't really think it will be enough to really change the ride of your trailer. Lightweight trailers can have a tendency to bounce around when they aren't under load so it would be about the same ride quality with the load range C option.
