Weight Distribution Hitch Recommendation for 2006 Ford Explorer Towing 2,500 lb Trailer

I have a 2006 V6 explorer. It has a factory 1 1/4inch hitch rated at 3500lbs, curb weight 4200-4400lbs. I am looking at two trailers, one 2200 and the other 2500lbs. Would I need a weight distributing hitch or just sway bars? It appears if I need the hitch I would have to replace my receiver with a 2, since I dont see anything made for the smaller 1 1/4. I do see an adapter plate that I can put on and put on a sway bar for the smaller one. Your help would be appreciated, I have gotten multiple answers at different rv dealers.

Weight distribution systems require a 2 inch or larger hitch size. There isn't a way to use a WD system on a 1-1/4 inch hitch so you'd have to install a 2 inch hitch on your 2006 Ford Explorer like the # 75437.
You will be towing a trailer heavy enough to benefit from a WD system since the trailer weighs more than half of the total vehicle weight. The kit I recommend is the part # RP66082 which has a tongue weight range of 200 to 600 lbs and features only sway control that works to fight sway before it starts.
For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
