Troubleshooting Harsh Braking with Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller
Published 02/28/2019 >
Question:
Hello, I have a 2000 Toyota Tundra Excess Cab. Since installed the bake sensitivity has been very harsh. No matter what setting the trailer brakes seem to catch rather quickly thus leading to a jerky stop and sometimes locking up. Any recommendations. I plan on replacing since I can not seem to get it to come to a smooth and comfortable stop.

It sounds like the Boost Setting (not the actual power adjustment) on your Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195 might just need to be changed. After adjusting the power level on the controller you can then select a boost setting, which is designed to allow for more aggressive braking.
When the boost setting is off, power to the brakes start out at zero and increase with deceleration. If turned on, this power will automatically start at a certain level depending on how high a setting you select (B1, B2, or B3). I recommend checking to see if your controller is set to a boost level and simply turn this function off to see how that smooths out your braking.
If this does not resolve the issue or the boost setting is already off please let me know and we can continue to troubleshoot.
