Question:
I am trying to wire my Nissan Xterra up to tow light trailers that would only need a 4 pin attachment. How can I determine if my vehicle came with the tow package. I have the midrange xterra. Not the X and not the off road. From what I have been reading on your site, all Xterras have a hook up under the vehicle but that does not mean your vehicle has a tow package. Please help me figure out if I have a tow package and what parts I need to get from you to get my trailer working. Running lights and all. Thanks,

The easiest and definitive way to determine if your 2009 Nissan Xterra has a factory tow package is to give the VIN to a dealership and have them determine what options it came with from the factory.
Another way would be to use a circuit tester, like # PTW2993 if needed, and test the factory connection point under the vehicle. It should show signals when the brakes are applied, lights are turned on, and turn signals engaged.
However, even if it shows signals, it does not necessarily mean that it is fully functional. There may be relays under the dash that are missing. You can check the vehicle owner's manual to determine where the towing package related relays are at and then check to see if your Xterra has them. If not, you would need harness # C56225 that comes with the appropriate relays.
I have included links to the installation details for each harness for you
