Question:
This is an older cargo box, 2002 ish. I need to replace the locking hardware inside the box - not the actual lock, but the metal bars that slide and the mechanism that turns and locks the box when the key is turned. All I can find for this box is mounting hardware and the actual lock core.

I reached out to my contact at Thule and the bars you are seeking are not available as a replacement option. They have discontinued those style locks so you will be forced to improvise or upgrade.
If you choose to improvise, I recommend installing the Replacement Bottom Lock Bracket for SportRack Explorer Cargo Box # SR00841 and the Replacement Lock Core and Key for SportRack Explorer Cargo Box - Qty 1 # SR03807. This will give you the lock and the latch needed to secure your box, and based on the design of your box, you may want multiple sets.
If you need to seal extra holes, you can use the Loctite RTV 598 High-Performance Silicone Gasket Maker # LT37467 to keep the box weather tight.
