Will the Convert-A-Ball Dual Cushioned Ball Mount Work at Max Rise on a 2005 Jeep Liberty

Published 10/28/2011

Question:

I have a Jeep Liberty 2005 w the spare mounted on the tailgate. I know the Convert-A-Ball adjustable ball mount has an overall clearance of 11 inches. However what about clearing the spare tire so that all the vertical adjustment can be used? I can tell the lowest maximum is possible,Im more concerned about the lift.

I went out to the warehouse and pulled the Convert-A-Ball Dual-Cushioned, Adjustable Ball Mount, # CAB-UM, and took some measurements for you. The most critical measurement is going to be the measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole, to the back of the ball platform, which is 6 inches, and the measurement from the top of the receiver shank to the top of the ball platform, which is 8-1/2 inches, in the max rise position, see photo link.

As long as the distance out from the center of your hitch pin hole, and distance to the top of the ball platform from the inside top of the receiver, will clear your spare tire, this ball mount will work for you. You will need to measure to be sure.

I would also recommend using the Convert-A-Ball Interchangeable Ball Set, # 900b, to easily change balls out when towing trailers with different coupler sizes.
