Can Trailer Wiring Touch Heat Shield of Exhaust Near Rear of Vehicle
Updated 10/09/2018 | Published 10/07/2018 >
Question:
Hi. On my 2005 matrix, the four prong plug can only be routed through the large hole underneath the spare tire from the inside to the outside of the car. Directly outside of the hole is the mufflers heat shield. Thus, the four prong wire has to lay on top of the heat shield in its travel to the hitch. Is the safe for the wire to contact the heat shield? Thank you.

Expert Reply:
Exhaust heat shields that are at the rear of a vehicles exhaust system would not get hot enough to melt wire or be an issue. Your 4-way wiring contacting the heat shield there would not be an issue.
