Can you turn this hitch around so the 3 inch offset is toward the front of the axle and not the rear?

The instructions for the Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter # DM8550045 state that the ball socket in the base needs to face the cab of the truck meaning you should not turn it around the other way. Most gooseneck hitches have the ball slightly forward of the rear axle centerline on the vehicle which is why the offset is towards the back of the truck. That would make the hitch head more or less centered over the rear axle.
