Difference Between Tekonsha Breakaway Battery Chargers

Published 09/26/2018

Question:

What are the differences or advantages disadvantages of the two chargers 1024 and the 2024-07 ? Is it just one has float mode and the other does not? I know the 2025-09 is the 120 volt charger. In the description on the Tekonsha site they all have the same description listed for the three chargers. Below is the description given for all three. For all 12v battery systems with a 4 Amp-hr minimum output. 2024-07 is designed to fit securely into the Breakaway Battery Cases. Temperature compensated design provides continuous recharge with automatic float mode feature to prevent overcharging. 1024/50-85-104 will return trailer breakaway system batteries to their maximum potential. Patent pending. 2025-09 features an automatic float mode to prevent overcharging. Ideal for seasonal storage and maintenance of recreational vehicles, motorcycles, snowmobiles, lawn tractors, and more. Thanks,

You are correct that the only real difference between the now discontinued Tekonsha Breakaway Battery Charger 2024-07 and the Tekonsha # 1024 is that the 2024-07 featured an automatic float mode to prevent overcharging of the battery. This is the more ideal charger if you plan on going on longer trips where this might become an issue. As you mentioned both chargers will work well with 12V battery systems that have a 4 amp per hour minimum output.

Since only the # 1024 is available now, that's what you're going to need to go with.
