ive heard after installing the wire harness for trailer lights, you then have to take the car to a dealership to have them flash the computer before they will activate. is this true?

The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat # 118617 that you referenced is a confirmed fit for your 2017 Dodge Durango GT and does not require you to have the computer of the vehicle flashed. Due to how it installs there would be no need for that. It installs by installing inline with the tailight connectors on the vehicle which it then interprets the signal going to the taillights and activates the trailer lights accordingly.
