Larger Tires and Axle Lift Kit for 2006 Jayco Jayfeather 23B Travel Trailer

Updated 07/31/2018 | Published 07/30/2018

Question:

I have a 2006 Jayco Jayfeather 23b and currently have duel axel 175/80R13 tires, with 4 inches of space between the tires. I wanted to lift the trailer frame and put on bigger tires and after reading a previous answer you provided, I understand that lifting frames with torsion axels using spacer blocks is appropriate. I have dexter axels as shown in the attached picture so could I use a kit? Do you know the lift heights I could get with a dexter kit? Also, if I went to 215/75R14 tires, which would increase the diameter from 24 inches to 26.7 inches, essentially closing that 4 inch gap between tires to 1.3 inches, do the torsion axels move the tires horizontally at all, where this tight margin could cause the tires to touch each other? In you experience with torsion axels, is there a minimum safe gap width between the two tires on a duel axel that must be maintained? Below are pictures of the gap and the axels. Thank you!

The Torflex Axles on your 2006 Jayco Jayfeather 23B will allow you to add a lift kit and utilize bigger tires. I didn't get your photos, but the measurements you gave will clearly allow this. There is no horizontal movement.

You most likely have Torflex #10 axles which are rated for 2,300 to 4,000 lbs and have a distance between the bolt holes of 8 inches center to center. For this you will want the Torflex Lift Kit - Single Axle - 2-5/8" Lift # K71-707-01. If you have a different measurement, let me know.

The tires I recommend are the Karrier ST215/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire with 14" White Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range C # AM32181 which have a load rating of 1,870 lbs at 50 psi and a ply rating of 6. They are also rated for speeds up to 81 mph and come with a 2 year warranty.

The tires can be 1.3 inches apart without issue. Dexter recommends at least 1 inch between tires when under load so once your trailer is loaded you won't have an issue with the larger tires.
