Question:

We will unlikely he towing a trailer but do have a bike rack that hitch mounts but not essential. We have a soft fitted bed cover that we would like to remain so we can travel with items stowed in the bed. We currently have a Thule Hull-a-Port Pro which I use on my car which could be moved over. I am thinking likely an over the bed/cab option would be most beneficial. Hope that helps!

There are ways you can carry 138 pounds worth of kayak with your 2017 Ford F-150 but I need a little more information. Are you wanting to carry them on the roof, above the bed, in the bed, somewhere else? Will you also be towing a trailer at the same time and if so what kind of trailer (5th wheel, bumper pull)?

The location you intend to carry the kayaks will determine the best options.

Thank you, that does help! What I recommend is to install one roof rack crossbar and use a load extender to hold the kayaks. You can use the following parts to add a single bar to the cab of your 2017 Ford F-150 SuperCrew: Vortex bar # RRVA150B Half leg kit # RRRLKVAH Half fit kit # DK427H Then I recommend using a load extender such as # EM07600-07601. This will keep the kayaks up over the bed allowing you to carry cargo and keep your Tonneau cover in place. If you do want to also bring your bikes you could also use a front mount hitch # 65067 and carry the bikes in it.

Follow up question on a 2016 Ford F150 Super Crew Cab. I would like to have a roof rack for a fishing kayak or small canoe. I do tow a travel trailer and the bed has a tri-fold tonneau cover which limits me to no hitch extender or bed rack. Is it recommended to use only roof rack mounts for a kayak, or should I consider a front mount hitch receiver? And is that even possible with the turbo intercooler location in the front lower bumper on this truck?

This depends a bit on the length of your fishing kayak or canoe, but honestly you've got a lot of space to work with on the roof of your Super Crew Cab model. Unless these are uniquely large kayaks, I don't think you'll have a problem utilizing just the crossbars on the roof. I like the Yakima JetStream System that consists of parts # Y00426, # Y28TR, and # Y06122.
