Which Trailer Hitch Receiver Has the Most Ground Clearance on a 2017 Jeep Renegade
Updated 04/27/2018 | Published 04/26/2018 >
Question:
I have a 2017 Jeep Renegade Lattitude. Looking for a hitch with the most ground clearance. I was thinking the Class II draw tite. Would you agree? Also, why does anyone get a Class III? It seems unnecessary given the tow capacity only goes up to 2000 lbs for the Renegade.

The trailer hitch receiver that will offer the most ground clearance on your 2017 Jeep Renegade is the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 76021. This is a Class III hitch with a 2" receiver tube opening. When we installed this hitch on a similar 2017 Jeep Renegade (see video) we found that the distance from the ground to the top of the inside edge of the receiver tube is 11-3/4".
The distance from the ground to the top of the inside edge of the receiver tube on the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 36587 is only 10". The reason I recommend going with a Class III hitch over a Class II hitch is that it will allow for a greater variety of accessories to be used. For example, we have more cargo carriers and bike racks that work with a Class III hitch than we do with a Class II hitch. Please keep in mind that not all of these trailer hitches were tested on the same vehicle so the ground clearance measurements may vary slightly from your vehicle.
If you can tell me what you will be using the hitch for then I would be happy to make some additional recommendations for you as well.
