Comparison of Tow Ready and CURT Trailer Wiring for a 2011 Subaru Forester
Published 08/05/2011 >
Question:
I noticed that the installations instructions for the Curt C56040 has a ground wire that needs to be grounded to the body with a screw but the Tow Ready 118467s instructions makes no mention of one nor does the photo show one. Any other differences that would recommend on over the other? Are the lengths of the flat 4 wire leading to the trailer connector the same?

The CURT Wiring Harness, # C56040, does have a separate ground wire that needs to be attached to a clean bare metal surface using the including self-tapping screw.
The Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 118467, grounds through the connector that connects to the vehicle.
Both are grounded, just in different ways. The most popular wiring harness for your 2011 Subaru Forester is the Tow Ready, # 118467. There is no significant length differences on the 4-Way end wiring. I have included links to the installation instructions for both harnesses.
I have also included a video for the Tow Ready wiring harness. However, please note that you will need to follow the supplemental diagrams on the product page below the description for either harness. It explains what the extra plug is for on each harness and where it connects so that the harness works with the backup sensors on the vehicle.
