Yes, the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch with TUFFPLATE Finish, # DL15440, would be a great winch for a boat trailer, especially a larger boat. The TUFFPLATE Finish makes the winch acceptable for marine use and the two speed gearing will help winch the boat in fast until the majority of the load is applied and then the handle can be moved to the lower gear and will give power to finish winching the boat onto the trailer.
The correct strap for this winch is the Hand Winch Strap with Safety Hook, # DL24251, which is 20 foot long and 2 inches wide.
