Question:

I see and do I need to get that red wire I saw in video? Doesn’t look like there’s one in the kit

The Reese Multi-Tow 7-Way & 4 Pole Trailer Connector # 74682 is meant to be a replacement for and existing 7-way (with factory trailer connector). If your vehicle already has a 7-way on the back, then this is the product to go with.

But if you don't have an existing 7-way, the recommended part is the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat # ETBC7. If your vehicle already has a 4-way flat, this kit includes everything you need to install an electric trailer brake controller and 7-way connector. If you don't a 4 way connection, this is the recommended product, 4-Pole Hardwire Kit with Circuit Tester # 18252

I have help articles and product videos that will help you navigate this process.

When the technician was under the Ford Ranger the red wire that he moved out of the way to run the wires to the front of the vehicle was already under the truck. This is not a part you need to purchase. Also in the video when the technician was making the wires connect to the battery, he kept referring to a red pull wire. A pull wire is just a piece of something that is long and can be pushed through with the actual wire attached to it. It is not apart of the kit. The pull wire can be anything long enough and stiff enough to go through. Sometimes it's hard to push a wire because it isn't stiff. If you looking for something to help you with this part of the install, I would try the Wire Pull # F49ZR.
