We can help you with an electric winch and wiring kit for installation on the tongue of your tilt-bed car hauler trailer.

Winches, like jacks, are best selected with a healthy safety margin in their weight capacity. For example, for an actual need of 1000-lbs using a jack or winch rated for let's say twice that will offer benefits such as reduced wear and improved reliability. Often a product used well below its maximum capacity will tend to last longer.

A rolling item like a disabled vehicle will present much less of a load to a winch than a static object that cannot roll freely. Just the same, the extra capacity rule still applies. We recommend using a winch rated for about 1-1/2-times the actual maximum vehicle weight likely to be pulled.

I suggest the Bulldog Winch model # BDW10031. This 5.2-horsepower wire rope winch includes a remote control that lets you see what is going on with the vehicle from any angle as you pull it onto the trailer. It features an automatic mechanical brake and comes with a steel mounting plate and installation hardware as well as a roller fairlead. Battery cables are included too. This winch will need a battery with a cold-cranking-amp rating of no less than 650 CCA. I linked our battery boxes too in case you wish to install one.

Another way to inexpensively add effective capacity to any winch is to use a pulley block (sometimes also called a snatch block) such as # BDW20049. A pulley block allows you to pull more rope out of your winch so that your winch can operate from lower layers where it has more power. They can also allow you to double the rope back to your vehicle and double the winch's pulling power. No matter which winch you select I suggest using a pulley block.
