Installing the Prodigy P3 in a 2016 Chevy Silverado 2500 With Factory Brake Controller
Question:
Hi, I cant seem to get enough brake gain adjustment to properly adjust brake pressure high enough on my trailer using the factory integrated brake controller. This is a 2016 chevy 2500 silverado. I still have my Tekonsha P3 Prodigy from my previous truck avalanche which I could get the right amount of braking on the same trailer. The P3 allows for more gain adjustment than the chevy unit does. Can I install the Prodigy on my truck using the 3016 harness to control the trailer? Do I need to unplug any factory harness, module or wires to allow the P3 to do its thing or can I simply plug into the black box using the P3 and 3016 and it will override the factory unit? Thanks!

Your Prodigy P3 # 90195 cannot be installed in your 2016 Chevy Silverado 2500 with a wiring harness. I have linked a help article detailing exactly what you will need to do in order to use the P3 in your Silverado. You will need to find the blunt-cut wires under the instrument panel and above your left shin as you are seated in the driver's seat. They will be connected in the following manner:
- GM Wire to Brake Control Wire Function
- Red/Black to Black Battery Power
- White to White Ground
- Light Blue/White to Red Brake Light Signal
- Dark Blue N/A Brake Control Output to Trailer
- Orange N/A Center High Mount Stop Lamp (CHMSL)
The article will include photos as well for you to take a look at to help with the install.
