Question:
I am trying to decide if I should pull my new toy hauler utilizing a Reese goose box air ride or a 5th wheel. I will be pulling a 18,000 GVW 3 axle toy hauler with a 2015 F350 diesel dually that has factory under bed rails. I had the reese goose box on my previous toy hauler and was happy with it. I need to purchase a 5th wheel or a goose box to pull the new trailer. Which will give a better ride? What are the pros and cons? What do you recommend? Thank You

Expert Reply:
I recommend using a fifth wheel hitch with your 2015 Ford F-350 to pull a fifth wheel trailer because it will give you the most secure connection and you will be using the trailer as it was initially designed instead of adapting it to fit. And some trailer frame manufacturers may also void the warranty when using an adapter, though it should be noted that the Goose Box has been approved for use by Lippert Components so it will not void the warranty on their frames.
You did not mention what size bed your 2015 Ford F-350 had, but for a fifth wheel I strongly recommend the B&W Companion # BWRVK3300 for a long bed or # BWRVK3370 for the sliding version if your F-350 is a short bed. The Companion is considered by many to be the highest-quality fifth wheel hitch available. With nearly 400 reviews from customers who have purchased it, the Companion has gotten a nearly unanimous 5-star rating.
It features dual jaws which are a full 1" thick to provide complete contact with your king pin so you can have faith that your connection is completely secure. I've added a picture of the jaws so you can see for yourself how impressive they are. The Companion is also going to give you a much quieter ride with less rattling than other fifth wheels due to that secure connection, along with the polyurethane bushings it has. It has a pivoting head to make hooking up easier, a cam-action latch to deter binding, and offers three different height settings to ensure you are level with your fifth wheel. The B&W will fit directly into the puck system in the bed of your 2015 F-350 and has a towing capacity of 20,000 lbs. I've added links to video reviews of this hitch for you to take a look at.
