Question:

I have a 2012 Ram 3/4 ton pickup 5.7 hemisphere, 8 ft box and 15k fifth plate. I want to get a new camper that has a 13,500 gcvw. Will my pickup pull it?

According to the "Ram Towing and Payload Help Article", the 2012 Ram 2500 5.7L V8 has two different towing capacities depending on the package your truck came with from the factory. If you have the Power Wagon version then the maximum towing capacity is 10,200 lbs. If you have the ST, SLT, Bighorn/Lonestar, Laramie, and Outdoorsman package then your maximum towing capacity is 14,400 lbs.

You can verify the maximum towing capacity of your vehicle by finding the sticker that lists this capacity usually located in the driver side door panel or on the inside lid of the glove box. As long as you do not have the Power Wagon edition then you can safely tow your 13,500 lb camper.

In order to create a connection point for the camper's lights inside the truck bed, I recommend using the Hopkins Endurance 5th Wheel/Gooseneck 90-Degree Wiring Harness with 7-Pole Plug part # 41157 as this will allow you to do just that. As you will be adding a significant amount of weight to the vehicle's rear suspension components, I also recommend using the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TDR2500CA.
