How Much Weight Can Landing Gear Hold

Question:

How much weight can a landing gear hold for the trailer is fully loaded will it hold it

It depends on what 5th wheel landing gear you have. For example; the Lippert Landing Gear part # LC333966 is rated for 6,000 lbs. It can be used with a trailer that weighs more than 6,000 lbs because it is only supporting part of that load - the tires, wheels, and axles should be supporting the bulk of the weight. Keep in mind that the pin weight of a 5th wheel trailer is typically 20% of the loaded trailer weight.

As long as you are not going over the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of your trailer and you have it loaded properly you will not need to be worried about over exceeding the weight capacity. The only time that might be a concern is if the OEM landing gear has been replaced with landing gear that is rated for a much lower weight capacity.

The Lippert 6K # LC333966 mentioned above will work really nicely for that sized trailer. It's good to have a system that's "over-rated" a bit so it doesn't have to work up to its limit. This typically leads to faster operation and a longer lifespan.

My 2010 keystone avalanche weighs 11500, I need a lead leg for the landing gear.

@JonG I’m not for sure. I don’t see any numbers on the jack itself. I also removed the cap and didn’t see anything.

@LandingG In that case I recommend replacing your entire landing gear set with part # RVLG-8HDL so you know everything matches up correctly. Without knowing what you have it's possible that any given landing gear lead leg would have a different gear ratio which would really mess things up and prevent you from having a level trailer at all.
