Recommended Transmission Cooler And Suspension Enhancements For A 2011 Nissan Frontier

Updated 07/26/2017 | Published 07/24/2017

Question:

My truck is a 2011 Nissan Frontier 4x4 4.0. Im looking at adding an additional transmission cooler to the factory one, and also am looking at either the timbren rear supspension helper system or possibly an air bag system. Currently in the rear I have removed the thick flat bottom helper spring with a add a leaf that has lifted the truck around an inch to an 1.25. The camper Im towing will be around 5000 lbs and the truck is rated @ 6100. Im looking for something to help keep the truck running good, and to level it out as Im pulling.

I will first start out by addressing the additional transmission cooler you will want to help keep the transmission fluid temperatures at a safe level, while towing a 5,000 lb. trailer with your 2011 Nissan Frontier. As you mentioned, your Frontier is plenty capable of hauling this load, however, it is never a bad idea to aid your factory transmission cooler with an even larger one for optimal performance.

I recommend looking at the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit w/Barb Inlets part # D13503 which will provide you with maximum efficiency. The cooler also comes with everything you will need for installation.

Adding additional suspension enhancements will not only increase the performance of your vehicle while towing but they will also help to extend the wear life of your current suspension components.

You mentioned two of our most popular suspension enhancements in the Timbren jounce springs and the Firestone airbags. Although the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancements part # TTORTUN4L are a great option, I recommend using a set of airbags like the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs part # F2558 as these airbags will provide you with both support and increased ride comfort. You will also need to use the Lift Spacers for Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs part # F2536 to account for the rear suspension lift on your vehicle.

I have attached a review video of both the Timbren springs and Flex-a-lite cooler for you.
