What is Purpose of Lip on Mounting Bracket of Firestone Ride Rite Kit F2558

Question:
On the drivers side there is a lip towards the front of my upper bracket that is forcing the bag too far forward I’m wondering why this portion is essential it seems like it’s too thick what should I do. Is the bag slightly crooked ok or am I seeing a flaw

The lip is supposed to be there. It appears to be a way to allow the bracket to set more level than what the frame of the truck allows since it is angled and not parallel to the ground.
