How to Raise Trailer Suspension When Springs are Above Axle

Updated 07/29/2020 | Published 05/16/2017

Question:

Hello, my tow vehicle 4x4 Ram sits higher than most trucks so my 5th wheel is not level. The leaf springs are already on top of the trailer axles by manufacture design. Can I simple expend the shackles to get a few inches of height to the rear of f the trailer?

The best way to get additional lift at this point would be to go with taller hangers on your trailer. Increasing the length of your shackle straps won't give you a level lift since it would only increase the one side of the axle. Going with taller hangers will raise both sides of where the axle mounts.

You will want to measure the length of your current hangers and then check out the link I attached that has all of the hangers we offer and go with ones taller than what you have.

Hangers really need to be welded to the frame to ensure a safe attachment to the trailer. I do not recommend bolting them on.
