Carpet Diagram

Note: This 18" wide carpeting is designed for use on 4x8, 3x8, and 2x6 boards. If you use this on your 4x8 bunk boards, a small section of the board will be exposed on the underside.

Protect Your Boat's Hull

Over time, the carpeting that covers your bunk boards can wear down or even tear apart. This can lead to scratches on your boat's hull. Replacing the carpeting periodically ensures protection for your boat, and it will also prevent your wooden bunk boards from rotting.

Replacing Bunk Board Carpeting

To get started, remove the old carpet from your bunk boards, doing your best to remove any old staples and bolts from the boards as well.

Cut the carpet to the appropriate length and lay it down so that the backing is facing up, then place your bunk board on top. Make sure that there's enough extra carpet to wrap around the sides and ends of the board. Then wrap the carpet around one side and staple it in place.

Once you're done with the first side, tightly pull the carpet around the opposite edge of the board and secure it with staples. Loose carpet can easily snag or tear, leaving the wooden board vulnerable to moisture or damage.

Once both sides are securely attached, tuck any extra carpet at the ends in tightly, like you're wrapping a package, and secure the ends to the board with staples.

  • Can Bunk Brackets Work as Replacements for Welded On Supports
Yes, the CE Smith Double U-Bolt Bolster and Swivel Bracket Assemblies # CE10192GA-4 will work as replacements, and you're definitely doing the right thing in replacing them due to the corrosion. You will need to use the CE Smith U-Bolts # CE15283GA-8 to install these assemblies and both the brackets and bolts are galvanized for future protection from corrosion. If you are also looking to replace the bunk board carpeting we have a number of lengths available, such as the CE Smith Deluxe...

  • Recommended Carpet Width for Bunk Boards Measuring 2 Inches X 6 Inches
For 2 x 6 bunks you'll want the 18-inch width carpet # CE11349 in order to have full wrap-around coverage without exposed wood. As for wood, using treated could extend the life of the your bunk boards, but you will be also looking a higher cost then using untreated wood.

  • Can Bunk Boards Longer Than 69-1/2" be Installed on a Boat Trailer
Hey Dave, thanks for reaching out again! To be honest, boat trailers are a DIYers best friend because each one is different and people will swap things out to fit different needs, just like you're doing now. Basically, as long as it fits on your trailer and all of the weight ratings are being observed you'll be good to go. Bolster brackets like the CE Smith # CE10000G-4 are industry standard, and while there are likely some unique brackets with different mounting pieces out there in the...

  • Solution for Needing Replacement Carpeted Bunks 100, 105, and 34 inches
We have 36 inch long bunk boards available like with the part # CE27800 but the longest we offer are 84 inches like the part # CE27845. We don't have any that are 100 or 105 inches long. We do have bunk carpet in 18 foot long sections like the part # CE11349 which you could use with boards if you could source them elsewhere.

  • Recommended Keel Rollers to Replace Worn Rollers on Boat Trailer
Looking at the picture you attached (thank you!), it appears that the weight of your boat might be putting too much pressure on your existing keel rollers, which has caused them to wear down to the point of them not functioning like they should. I definitely recommend replacing the existing rollers because of the visible damage, but I also recommend adding a couple more rows to your trailer to support the other two keels on the boat. This will help to better disperse its weight so you don't...

  • What Width Carpet Should be Used for 2 by 6 inch Bunk Board
For a 2 by 6 you want to go with at least a 16 inch width carpet so an 18 inch wide carpet like the part # CE11349 would work great and would just have a little more overlap.

  • Replacement Bunk Boards Longer Than 7 Feet Long
I have a solution for you, but unfortunately those 7ft long bunk boards # CE27845 are going to be the longest ones we currently offer. If you wanted to source the wood yourself you could then just use some marine grade carpeting like the CE Smith Deluxe Marine-Grade Carpeting for Bunk Boards - Black - 18' Long x 18" Wide # CE11349 and build your own-might be more cost effective as well since you'd save on shipping a rather large item. If you do go that route you'll want to avoid pressure...

  • Weight Capacity And Parts Needed For Modifying Boat Trailer For 26 Ft Regal Commodore
I spoke with my contact at CE Smith, and they said the Bolster and Swivel Bracket Assembly for Boat Trailers, part # CE10000G, do not bear the weight of the boat. The U-bolt that attaches the brackets to the trailer frame support the weight of the boat. There should be a bracket attached to each cross member of the trailer frame. If you are buying several brackets, I would recommend part # CE10000G-4. This is a set of 4 of the 9 inch adjustable brackets. If you need longer adjustable brackets...

  • Options for Replacing 16 Foot Long Bunk Boards for Pontoon Boat Trailer
I have a couple of options for you to replace the bunk boards for your pontoon boat trailer. The first option is to use two sets of the bunk boards that you referenced, CE Smith Carpeted Bunk Boards, 7 Ft Long # CE27845. If it would work for you to use two sets of these boards, with some space in between each set, this would offer you 14 ft worth of pre-carpeted bunk boards for your trailer. These 7ft boards are the longest pre-carpeted bunks that we currently offer. The other, more...

  • How Many Support Brackets Are Needed For A 14 Foot Bunk Board Carrying A Pontoon Boat?
As the bunks will be support the weight of your pontoon boat, I always recommend getting them to the end of the transom, or as close as possible. As you mentioned using 14 foot long boards, you will want at least 4 evenly spaced support brackets per board, but 5 is better. You have a few options for these brackets as well. I tend to like the CE Smith V-Wing Bolster Bracket # CE26244G as I prefer the rigid style and it can hold two boards. However, our most popular style is the CE Smith...

  • Trailer Bunk Carpet for 14 ft long 2x4 Bunk Boards
To make your own bunk boards, pressure treated pine has long proven to be the best kind of treated wood to use because it holds up well and it is strong enough to support a boat. To wrap around the 14 ft long 2 x 4 bunk boards (actually 1.5 x 3.5), you'll need carpet that is around 14-1/2 ft long and just over 10 inches wide. Our closest option is going to be the CE Smith Deluxe Marine-Grade Carpeting # CE11349. I've linked an installation video for you to check out at the bottom of the page.

For the two 5' bunk boards I recommend the CE Smith Carpeted Bunk Boards for Boat Trailers - 5' Long - 1 Pair # CE27820, but the longest board we offer is 7' so for the two 109" boards you will need to get them from your local hardware store and use the CE Smith Deluxe Marine-Grade Carpeting for Bunk Boards - Black - 18' Long x 18" Wide # CE11349 to add the carpet to the boards. For the bunks I recommend using two sets of the 5' CE Smith Carpeted Bunk Boards # CE27820, or you'd like to get your own wooden boards you can wrap them in Marine-Grade Carpeting # CE11349. To install the boards, you will need a pair of Bolster and Swivel Bracket Assemblies # CE10001G-4 per board, which are 11", as well as a pair of U-Bolt Kits # CE15283GA-4. I've added links to video reviews of these parts for you to check out as well.

  • Looking for 8 Foot Carpeted Bunk Boards for Boat Trailer
Our supplier doesn't carry 8 foot bunks, so that's why we don't offer them. I'd recommend getting two 8 foot pressure treated 2x4's and a roll of the # CE11349 bunk carpet and making your own bunks. The carpet can be attached using heavy duty stainless staples and outdoor carpet adhesive. I replaced the bunks on my PWC trailer this way about 6 years ago, it was quick and simple, and is still holding up great all these years later.

It sure can! The backing plate on the Single Axle Trailer Fender w/ Backing Plate - Steel - 14" to 15" Wheels - Qty 1 # HP36VR you were looking at measure 12" tall as shown in the included diagram so you will just need to select marine grade carpet that is 12" or close in width. I have an alternate option for you, but we do not have any carpeted bunk boards that are 6" wide. All of our bunk boards are 2x4's. Instead you can source the boards from a lumber yard or home improvement store and then use the CE Smith Deluxe Marine-Grade Carpeting for Bunk Boards # CE11349 to cover the boards. • Replacement Options for 17' Long Bunk Boards for a 20' Pontoon Boat
It is recommended to have bunk boards at least 50% of the length of your boat. But since you currently have 17' bunk boards, we would recommend that you replace your boards with that same length. The longest complete bunk board that we have are the CE Smith Carpeted Bunk Boards # CE27845 which are 7' long (this is 1 pair). So you would need to buy (2) of these and (1) of the CE Smith Carpeted Bunk Boards # CE27800 (3') to get 17'. Or what I would recommend is to get some 10' 2x4's from...

  • Can Treated Lumber Be Used for Bunk Boards
Pressure treated lumber can be used for bunk boards along with bunk carpet like the # CE11349. However, it is possible that some corrosion may occur from the chemicals in the lumber over time. The CE Smith bunk boards like # CE27840 are made from untreated southern yellow pine. The carpet keeps them protected and, since they are untreated, corrosion won't be a concern.

  • Proper Trailer Bunk Board Length for 21 Foot Boat
Two 12 foot long bunks boards will work well to support your 21 foot boat. Ideally, the bunk boards should be at least half as long as your boat and run from the stern (or a few inches beyond it) to the bow as far forward as you like. Due to shipping restrictions/cost on over-sized items, the longest bunk boards we carry are the CE Smith Carpeted Bunk Boards # CE27845 which are 7 foot long. • Are the CE Smith Carpeted Bunk Boards Treated
The CE Smith Carpeted Bunk Boards like part # CE27845 are not treated. The marine grade carpet will do a great job of keeping out water so treatment is not needed. I have attached our full selection of carpet and bunk boards below.

  • Recommended Marine Carpet for 2x6 Bunk Boards 8 Feet Long
For 2 boards that are 2x6 and 96 inches long, I recommend the CE Smith Deluxe Marine-Grade Carpeting for Bunk Boards - Black - 18' Long x 18" Wide # CE11349. This will allow you to cover your boards completely. That will allow better hold to the boards because there is more surface area to attach the carpet to the boards. One roll will cover both boards well. I recommend using stainless steel staples so the staples don't corrode. You can find them at your local hardware store.
