Question:

I am considering getting a set of the Timbren SES for my 2014 Ram 1500 Quad Cab 4x4 for when i haul heavy loads, but everything I have read on your site tells me that a WD system is better for hauling a trailer, and the two together may provide poor performance towing towing a heavy trailer. I know they install quickly from watching the video, but How easy/quick are the TDR1500DQ springs to remove once installed and pop back in the factory bumb stops if I want to haul a heavy trailer with a WD system?

The best way to reduce vehicle sag and trailer sway would entail the use of a weight distribution system. A weight distribution system works by distributing the weight on the rear axle of the tow vehicle across the entire platform. This will allow for a level towing surface, in turn providing a safe haul. Using a friction bar design, the downward force applied to the trailer's tongue will minimizes trailer sway in one of two ways. The first being to reduce sway as it is happening and the second entails preventing trailer sway altogether before it occurs.

In comparison to a weight distribution system, suspension enhancements such as the Timbren Rear Springs and Firestone Airbag are designed to aid the existing components on your vehicle. For example, the Timbren rear springs are are only effective while there is weight in the rear cargo bay or while towing a heavy load. Once activated, the springs minimize suspension travel on the rear axle allowing for a safe and level haul.

In order to choose the correct weight distribution system you will need to measure the total tongue weight of your loaded, ready to tow trailer and any weight stored behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. To do this I recommend using the etrailer Trailer Tongue Weight Scale part # e99044 as this will provide you with an easy to use, accurate method for measuring tongue weight. Although a properly rated and installed weight distribution system will not require the use of additional suspension enhancements for vehicle sag, suspension enhancements can however be use to aid and extend the life of your current suspension components. The Timbren springs can be installed and removed very easily. They are attached to the rear of your vehicle directly above the axle by a crimped cup. To install the springs you will need to twist the current bump stops out and place the Timbren Springs into the existing hole until they are held in place by the mounting cup. Then you will want to place a 2x4 wooden block underneath the spring and lower the vehicle down onto the block until the spring is compressed and secured in place.

If you are still experiencing sag and excessive trailer sway, it can be necessary to upgrade your system to the next size.
