Installing A Battery Isolator On The Trailer Side Of The Wiring Connection
Updated 04/28/2017 | Published 04/27/2017 >
Question:
I need a simple wiring diagram to wire my winch battery isolator to be able to charge it while my 7 pin connector is hooked up and towing my trailer with my truck, wiring it from the trailer 7 pin connector. I have purchased the isolator from E- Trailer already. Thank you

I'm happy to help with that isolator and wiring. I checked your invoice and see you went with the Battery Isolation Solenoid # PK5231201. This is a good choice and will need to be mounted to the frame because it uses the mounting holes for ground. Make sure you have a clean area with a metal to metal connection for that mount. From your 7-way, you will run the 12V power wire to the left terminal when facing the 3 pins, the 12V accesory terminal in the middle will go to your running lights, and the right terminal will go to the positive on your winch battery. The negative of that battery will be grounded to your trailer. This will allow your winch battery to charge when you have your 7-way trailer side wire connected to your vehicle and have your running lights on.
