Thule's hitch-mounted Doubletrack Pro XT Bike Rack # TH92BJ will fit into either 1-1/4-inch or 2-inch hitches. Your 2016 BMW X1 can be fitted with the 2-inch Class III type which will provide a substantial weight-carrying capacity, plenty for the weight of this rack and your two loaded bikes.
The hitch I recommend for your X1 (if it does not already have one) is the less-costly option, etrailer # e93KR. It doesn't require the stabilizer strap like the Curt does for bike racks or cargo carriers.
The Doubletrack when folded up in its storage position will contact the bumper cover so unless you don't mind not being able to fold the rack up I suggest an alternative platform rack. Swagman's Dispatch 2 Bike Platform Rack # S44FR does not fold up like the Thule but it shares all primary features and offers a higher weight capacity of 45-lbs per bike and it has more than 6-inches of rise in the shank to give you better ground clearance when entering a driveway for example.
For a premium carrier option the Kuat NV 2.0 2-Bike Platform Rack # NV22G will fit well when folded up in its storage position. Please see the linked video showing installation on an X1.
