Choosing a Winch for a Boat Trailer

Question:

Hello, How do I identify which winch will fit my trailer. I am just beginning to research. I have a 1998 boat trailer made by Dorsey. It is for a 23 foot Concorde boat with dual axels.

You want to choose a winch that will have the appropriate weight capacity for your boat. You'll also want to factor in things like the incline and if you're using carpeted bunks or rollers that will provide more or less resistance. You'll also want to compare them based on different features they may have.

For example, the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch - TUFFPLATE Finish - 2 Speed - Direct Drive # DL14825 is rated for up to 2,500 pounds. It also has two speeds: a faster speed to pull in quickly and a lower speed with increased pull.
