Expert Reply:
Both the Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Circuit Tester # 8010 and the Hopkins Tow Doctor Trailer End Test Unit # HM50928 are for testing the wiring of your trailer.
Both will work with incandescent and LED lights. However, the Hopkins will not display amperage for LED lights.
They both connect the same by plugging your trailer's wiring harness into the unit. The Hopkins includes connectors for a 7-blade, a 4-pole, and 6-pole round. The Tekonsha has the 7-blade standard. If you need a different connection you can use an adapter from a 7-blade to whichever other connector you need, such as # PK12716 for a 7-blade to 4-pole.They do not test a brake controller but will both test the electric brakes on the trailer.
Both operate in a similar way. I've attached review videos for you to see and determine which you find better for you. Both Hopkins and Tekonsha are trusted, reliable brands and they are backed by a 1 year warranty.
Unfortunately, neither use a remote control. The Hopkins runs on a 12V connection and the Tekonsha uses a chargable battery so it's more portable.
