Question:

Bought a used motorhome that all he towed was a TOAD with air brakes. I have both a 6 way round and a 6 way flat hookup on the back of the trailer. I cant find a brake controller anywhere inside but why else have these hookups without it? Can I install a brake controller in my 2001 HR Imperial utilizing one of these hookups without have to run a whole new setup? What is your recommendation? Ive got an RV place will do it but want to run a complete new setup and cost me 500 bucks.

Since you already have a 6-way on the back of your 2001 Holiday Rambler Imperial it's possible there's already a brake circuit. However, since the previous owner was towing a vehicle it may not and you'll need to check for a wire running from the back of the 6-way to the cab of the RV. I've attached a diagram that may help you determine it. Traditionally, the brake control wire is blue and will connect to the back of the 6-way connector at the 3 O'clock position or center position, depending on how the 6-way is wired.

If you find that there already is a brake circuit, the Hopkins 6-Pole to 7-Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter # 47435 is what you need to connect your RV to your trailer.

If there is not a brake circuit, or you're just unsure, you can install your own wire. See the video I've attached to see a guide as to how the wire will be installed. You will need the wiring kit # 5506.

If you don't already have a brake controller I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885. This is a proportional brake controller that wires into the stop light switch of your RV, so it will work even with your air brakes. It's one of our highest rated controllers because of how easy it is to setup and use.
