Where to Attach E-Track to Aluminum Bed Trailer for Max Holding Strength
Updated 09/07/2016 | Published 09/06/2016 >
Question:
Hello, I have a 28 foot RNR aluminum deck open car hauler and was looking at mounting Etrack to add tie down versatility. I was reviewing the qanda and see there are 2 different answers for mounting to an aluminum trailer. 1 uses backing plates through the decking and the other suggests mounting to the cross beams. The trailer has D Rings with backing plates presently. The E Track will be used for securing one end of a small car when Im towing 2 cars. The heaviest car is less than 3000lbs, and will be tied down using Etrack on end end and the d rings on the other.. It will also be used for odd shaped lighter items, scooters, golf carts, etc. what is the recommended mounting method for Max strength, and if backing plates are to be used, what is the recommended spacing interval? Thanks !

Expert Reply:
For maximum strength of mounting E-tracks to an aluminum trailer bed you really want to go down to the frame of the trailer. I am sure the aluminum bed of your trailer is pretty strong since it is car hauler but the frame will definitely be the strongest attachment method.
You can also try contacting the manufacturer of the trailer to see what they would recommend as well.
