Brake Controller Recommendation for a 2013 Mercedes ML350

I have a 2013 mercedes benz 2013 ML 350Blue tech model - I was interested in the Tekonsha 90195 model brake controller but based on what Ive been reading may not be the best model/brand based on wiring /electrical work. Need some guidance re topline/rated brake controller for this type of vehicle. As it stand my vehicle does not have the factory installed hitch knowing what I know now I would have purchased with this feature. After much back and forth deciding to take into Mercedes dealership to have them install MB Hitch kit which includes hitch, wiring and SAM module. After this hitch install is complete I need to determine what else remains to be able to tow my trailer. From what I can assume would just need the brake controller unit and any adaptor kits. Im not crazy re the cost and being wireless re model # 90295 - what is your take on that model? Can you provide me with what parts I will need after this hitch install or anything that can be done during this hitch install that would assist prevent additional work/cost for brake controller wiring/set up if that makes sense?

Installing a traditional in-cab brake controller on a 2013 Mercedes ML350 can be challenging. the problem is finding the correct brake switch wire or dedicated brake light only circuit that will connect to a brake controller red wire. This has to be done because there is no brake controller adapter for Mercedes vehicles.

It is possible that there is a factory Mercedes harness that just plugs into the vehicle under the dash somewhere. If that is the case then you can use a regular in cab controller by hardwiring it to that Mercedes harness. Brake controller wiring is white for ground, black for 12 volt power in, blue for output to the trailer brakes, and red for input from the brake switch. If there is a Mercedes harness I do not know what its wire colors/functions are so if it isn't labeled be sure to ask a Mercedes tech.

For a brake controller in this scenario I recommend the P2 # 90885. It is easy to set up and use and it is reliable.

If there isn't a Mercedes brake controller harness then I do not recommend an in cab controller. Instead I recommend the RF # TK94FR. This controller works well. The only real issues that customer have had is trouble pairing the unit mounted on the trailer with the unit that stays in the vehicle. But there are ways to fix that if it becomes an issue.
