Bearing Buddy Replacement Recommendation and How to Determine Replacement Bearings
Published 08/04/2016 >
Question:
I have a 1996[?] Gator boat trailer. I am looking to replace the current [rusting] Fulton Bearing Protectors with SS Bearing Buddies. While I am at it, I was planning on replacing the bearings and seals as well - its been at least 7 years since they were replaced. Question - The current bearing protector measures 1.980 inches when removed at the hub end. What other measurements do I need to ensure ordering the correct seals/bearings, etc.?

I am confident we have the parts you will need, but knowing which Bearing Buddy you have on your hub does not guarantee that we know for sure what bearings your hub has. The Bearing Buddy you need is the part # BB1980A-SS.
I really wish there was a way to determine what bearings a trailer needed without actually pulling the wheel off and checking, but there isn't. The only two solution I have for you would be to remove the hubs and get the numbers that are stamped on the bearing or for you to remove the hubs and use a digital or dial caliper to measure where the bearings and seal ride (see pic).
With that info I can help you figure out what you need.
