Looking For Marine Grade Hubs For A Straight Spindle

Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 07/15/2024

Question:

Hey I am trying to buy marine grade trailer hubs for my boat trailer. The spindle size is 3.5in measured with a flexible tape measure and the spindle is straight. The tire is 5 lugs. What size hubs do I need to fit the axel and spindle? If needed I can provide a photo. Thank you!

Hello Tucker, thanks for reaching out. We do offer 5 lug hubs that will fit a straight spindle, but I will need to know the diameter of your spindle in order to guarantee you get the correct hubs. The straight spindles are most commonly either the 1" diameter # L44643 or 1-1/16" diameter # L44649 bearing.

The best way to determine which one you have will be to measure the spindle with a digital caliper. That or you can pull one of the bearings and measure the ID. We offer marine grade galvanized hubs for both sizes. Here is what I recommend:

L44643 (1" spindle) - Easy Grease Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2K Axles - 5 on 4-1/2 - Galvanized # AKIHUB-545-2-G-EZ-1K

L44649 (1-1/16" spindle) - Easy Grease Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2K Axles - 5 on 4-1/2 - Galvanized # AKIHUB-545-2-G-EZ-2K

Keep in mind that these hubs have the 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern, so please do confirm this is what you have.

Hey Tucker, did you get a chance to measure your spindle with a digital caliper to confirm which bearing size you have? Once you found the right fit, how did the galvanized hub work out for your boat trailer? Your update could make it easier for others matching hubs to straight spindles.
