Setting Up the RP26660 Reese Friction Control System

Question:

I see lots of advice on how to install this system and installing it on my Lance 1885 Trailer was easy. I pull with a F-150. However, I cannot find any advice at all as to how tight to set the friction control system. Some initial advice on how to set the friction would really be helpful! There are essentially 2 bolts for adjusting this. One bolt requires a wrench, the other bolt has a handle welded on it. The decals indicate that the bolt with the handle should be screwed in all the way, which implies to me that the bolt requiring the wrench is the tension adjustment bolt. I have a torque wrench. What is a good initial torque on the adjustment bolt if the bolt with the handle on it is screwed all the way in? Or... is there another way to arrive at an initial adjustment?

To get maximum benefits from the sway control, a series of road tests should be taken with the loaded trailer. A great starting point you will want to loosen the tension bolt till it no longer makes contact with the unit, now tighten it up right till the unit starts to make contact. From there tighten it two complete revolutions and you will have a great starting point.

On subsequent trips increase or decrease tension by turning the adjusting bolt in 1/4 turn increments in the direction shown on the label. Keep doing this until the desired amount of sway control is achieved.
