Question:
Im having some height issues and wanted to ask about a possible solution. I have a 950# tear camper with 1 7/8 coupler that I easily pull with the Curt hitch on my 06 Scion xB. I recently replaced the axle and added leaf springs to the camper which substantially increased the height since I had to use a straight axle instead of a drop axle. Now I really dont match up with my tow vehicle hitch height. Im adding air bags to the rear springs on my car and I have a 5 inch riser bar but Im still falling short. I cant do the Atwood under slung coupler because it takes a 2 5/16 ball which Ill never be able to get with all my 3/4inch holed drawbars and Class II hitch. So...would it be possible to remove the current coupler and put on an adjustable coupler, such as CTA-196 with a corresponding bracket? Its overkill for my 4x8 trailer, but I need the ability to get the tongue up a bit. If it is possible, whats the most height I could gain? My springs are under slung, Ive got the tallest riser bar that will fit my hitch, Im putting bags on my back springs, so Im at a loss of how else to adjust height economically except changing couplers. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Ive had nothing but great service from you all.

If you are willing to replace the coupler of your trailer with a tall channel so that the part # CTA-196 will fit it that would be your best option. You would just need a qualified fabricator to weld on a channel like the part # BDAC5000300 which is 8 inches tall. For a 12 inch tall bracket you would instead need the part # DM59602.
