Question:
I would like to power a winch from the 7 wire plug on my trailer connection. Is this possible or is it too much of a load on the wiring? I will be getting a lighter weight winch for pulling rafts onto the trailer.

The Superwinch LT2000 Electric Utility Winch, # 1120210, will need to be wired directly to the battery. You are correct the smaller gauge wire on the 7-Way plug will not be sufficient enough to handle the current of the winch.
Two of the wires on the switch will connect to the winch. The other two wires on the switch will connect to the battery. The black wire will go to the negative side of the battery. The red wire will attach to the positive side of the battery using the included circuit breaker.
If you are going to be installing this winch on the trailer or at the rear of your vehicle you will want to use the Winch Trailer Wiring Kit, # BDW20307.
This kit will give you the thicker gauge wires (6 gauge) needed to run to the front of the vehicle and attach to the battery for power and ground. It also has a quick disconnect that will connect to the winch wires and allow you to plug into the wire coming from the front of the vehicle.
I am sending a link to the instructions for the Superwinch winch.
