Question:
My trailer has st 205/75 r 15 tires. i believe it has a 4 1/2 bolt pattern. Can i use a 225/75 r 15 on it? i am assuming this would increase the load capacity of the trailer. This would mainly be for safety. thanks,

Expert Reply:
The overall capacity of a trailer is more than just the weight capacity of the wheels and tires. You also need to consider the capacity of the axles, brakes, frame, and coupler. Most likely increasing the tire/wheel capacity will not increase the overall capacity of the trailer, but if it was the weakest link it would at least raise it a little bit.
As long as the rim you have on your trailer is between 6 and 7 inches in width a 225/75-15 tire like the part # TTWTRTM2257515D would fit on your rim. This has a capacity of 2,540 lbs at 65 psi.
For a wheel and tire with this tire size and has the 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern you need you would want the part # AM32545. This has a capacity of 2,540-lb maximum load at 65 psi.
