We have one brake controller available for your 2013 BMW X5. It is the Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Trailer Brake Controller, part # TK94FR, and since it is a wireless system does not require an adapter. It is an inertia-activated proportional system and plugs into a 12V accessory outlet in your BMW. There is no plug-in adapter available for your X5, and hard wiring the brake controller to your vehicle is not recommended.
The 90250 does require a 7-way trailer connector at the rear of your X5. if you do not have a trailer connector you will need part # 119250KIT. This wiring kit has been confirmed to fit your 2013 BMW X5 and with the powered converter will work with the separate lighting on your vehicle. I have attached a link to an installation of this harness you can check out. Along with the 119250KIT you will need # ETBC7 to provide the 7-way connector needed.
If you do not have a 7-way connector but have a 4-way connector you will need part # ETBC7. This plugs into your 4-way connector and you then run the black wire to the positive battery post using the inline 40-amp circuit breaker. For this installation with a wireless brake controller, the blue wire is not used and can simply be capped off.
