Availability of Replacement Parts for Brake Actuator on 1999 Heritage Tandem Boat Trailer
Published 09/01/2015 >
Question:
I have a 1999 Heritage tandem axel boat trailer. I have a problem with the trailer brakes locking up. It started with 1 wheel. I had the wheel cylinder replaced and the problem still occurred. I have since replaced the remaining 3 wheel cylinders. Now all 4 wheel brakes are locking up. I believe now I should replace the master cylinder. How do I determine which replacement brand I need? Not sure if I should replace the whole brake actuator or just put new parts on it. I have pictures I can attach if you can reply to this email.

In order to recommend a replacement master cylinder, I'd need to know the manufacturer and model number of the existing brake actuator. We carry replacement master cylinders for certain Titan, Dico, Atwood and Demco brake actuators. If parts are available, it might be feasible to replace parts as needed, but this will depend on the age of the actuator and the availability of parts.
The brand name of the trailer isn't as helpful as you'd think, as there's no master reference showing which parts were used as OEM of a given trailer. Many trailer manufacturers went out of business in the late 2000's, so there's lots of dead ends when trying to contact trailer manufacturers. If you could reply with more information about the actuator, I'd be happy to help.
