How is Rise and Drop Calculated for a Ball Mount

Published 08/07/2015

Question:

Can you explain the geometry of the BH40? How is it that the Rise can be larger than the Drop on a 2inch shank?

Rise and drop for a ball mount is calculated from the top of the hitch opening. The thickness of the ball mount platform also plays into this as well.

So from the hitch opening down to the ball mount platform for the # BH40 the ball mount measures 4 inches. When you measure from the top of the hitch opening to the ball mount platform when in the rise position you get 2-3/4 inches.

I attached a review video for this product and a help article on determining how much rise/drop you would need to tow a trailer level.
